World Cup Mix!
Something a little bit different for you all today. Cambridge's most famous bass born sons have delivered, possibly the greatest (football based) mix I have come across in a very long time. Just in time for the World Cup... The Nextmen have cooked up exactly what the doctor ordered.
No tracklisting on this one, there are simply too many tunes, samples and commentaries to note from. Funky, Fresh Hip Hop for your ears.

Flatine... featuring Skeeze
If you're a regular to our Mashed Up night then you'll undoubtedly be familiar with our residents Flatline... the expert sub shakers specialise in that kick snare sound with a little more edge, character and grime than your average wobble-fest. Catch them on Facebook.
After an amazing opening to 2010, which saw their debut release Hollow Dub featuring Darker Knight, featured on a compilation album put out by one of the dance scenes most respected labels... Lot 49.
They're back with a top new tune this week featuring their touring MC... Skeeze, who is also a regular on the mic @ Mashed Up. You can't mistake that bobble hat for anyone else.
The new tune, titled La Senza takes on a more Grime-based approach than their previous work... Its less about the bass and the more about the bars that Skeeze delivers with a maturity and originality, far beyond his years.
La Senza ft Skeeze by flatlinedubstep
Flatline have always impressed me by standing apart from a lot of Dubstep producers in London. They produce Dubstep with roots... basses with depth, snares with backbone.
Their newest material... screams at a bright future for the collective. Another new tunes, titled Professor Dub, a rather solomn affair, harking back to the true days of Dub (thats Dub, not Dubstep)... a chilled out, summer anthem.
Professor Dub by flatlinedubstep
You can also catch their awesome Hollow Dub below... and if you're feeling it, then please head over to Beatport and support Flatline in the best way possible!

Howdy all... a new mix here from UTR and Mashed Up resident Vesper.
Last month he was crowned winner of the Braindrop/Mixcloud competition with his Future of Funk #2 Mixtape... he wanted me to thank any of you that helped out with promoting his mix during the whole of April. He sent over a few words to describe the direction of his new mix...
"I Went in a slightly different direction with this one... focusing on a lot more UK Funky and some top Bass tunes. Less of the bangers and more of the Funk for this one... lots of summer tunes for sure.
I've become a little disheartened by a lot of Dubstep that's been thrown out there at the moment... wobble after wobble, cheese grater after cheese grater, with a little vocal before the drop signalling some kind of filthy gesture or action. It's a scene that is very quickly killing itself. There's a lot of amazing producers making great noises at the moment from the other end of the spectrum in Dubstep... more along the UK Bass/UK Funky sound. Producers like Roska, Ikonika, Ramadanman, Bok Bok, Swindle, Terror Danjah, Starkey, L-Vis 1990... they're all producers I have the upmost respect for, for trying something different.
I really enjoy listening to UK Bass and everything thats involved in that scene and it's a sound I'm slowly moving towards in my own mixes. I've still got that mad twisted edge to my sound which you can hear in the first 20 minutes or so of this mix, but I decided the dedicate the last 15 minutes or so to some up and coming producers who I think are going to have a lasting impact on the next generation of clubbers/DJs and Producers for years to come. I really hope you enjoy it.
If you're feeling any of the tunes then please support the artists in the best way possible by buying them from a respectable retailer. I really recommend Supra1's 'Ghoster' and the GreenMoney remix of 'Josephine', beautiful."

Mz Bratt... Selecta
Anyone at our UTR Xmas Snow Rave back in December @ Ministry of Sound will know this woman very well.
A big heads up for you today on Mz Bratt's new single Selecta. Produced by man of the moment Redlight and currently making the rounds in clubs at the moment. I heard it out in Bristol at the weekend, and boy did it go off! I've always been a fan of Mz Bratt, she strikes me as a British version of Kid Sister... not only does he know her scene and her own strengths well, but she can really write songs well too.
And when it comes to freestyle, she can rival Alesha Dixon for originality. She's part of a new era of Grime/Rap artists on this island that speaks the truth, and isn't afraid to say it how it is.
It's been a few months since we've seen any new material from Mz. Bratt and this wee break she has taken is duly deserved in my opinion.
A a continuation of everything Jungle and Garage vibes a-plenty... Think Super Sharp Shooter mashed with Dy-na-mi-tee. Fresh and Funky... 2010 riding strong.
Due for release on August 16th, Selecta is sure to be an anthem for the summer and will certainly be getting play, late on into the winter. Big love from UTR!

Redlight... added to UTR Summer Sound Clash!
Howdy peeps! As I'm sure some of you hardcore UTR fans will probably already know, Redlight has just been added to our already huge lineup for the UTR Summer Sound Clash next month with rooms hosted by Drum and Bass Arena, Get Darker and Dirty Canvas.
Man of the moment... Redlight will be taking to the decks of Room 2 on the night alongside Jammer, Shystie, P Money, the Urban Nerds Klose One and Rattus Rattus, Maxsta, Lil Nasty and R.I.O ... with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks.
Devoted DnB heads will know Bristol-based Redlight from his older alias Clipz who quickly made his way through the ranks with his fresh take on the Liquid and Jump Up sounds. During his 10 year production history and a series of awesome releases on Militia, Full Cycle, Emcee, Hyper and most recently his own label Audio Zoo Recordings... Clipz was solidified as one of the great DnB producers of the last decade.
Since last year, he's taken his hand to Dubstep tempo music... focussing his attention on fusing a new hybrid of Grime/UK Funky and Dubstep with heavy influences from the old Garage and Jungle scenes of old under his new Redlight alias. Late last year he released his debut EP as Redlight, titled the Lobster Boy EP released on his own new label of the same name.
With huge support from the likes of Skream + Benga, Jack Beats, Caspa, Annie Mac, Chase & Status, Mistajam, Rusko, Toddla T and hundreds of DJs around the country... the EPs lead track Feel So Good launched Redlight into the underground consciousness, with all standing up to take notice.
At the start of April, Redlight released his newest single to date... Stupid on Shy FX's Digital Soundboy label, featuring the vocal talents of one of 2010 newest rising stars, Roses Gabor. With day time radio play, support from DJs right across the board and public support so far from the likes of Jonathan Ross (yes you read that correctly)... Stupid has bridged the gap between Dubstep and UK Funky and is slowly forcing its way into the commercial spotlight like no track before it.
Redlight is already underway with building up support for his next single later this summer on Chase & Status' MTA Records, which recently put out Nero's Innocence. Current support in the clubs at the moment coming from the Dubstep big hitters Skream, Benga and Caspa. The new single MDMA features vocals from the comeback of the year, Ms Dynamite and bass so deep your head is likely to explode. Here's a small snippet of the tune, without vocals.
You can catch Redlight @ the UTR Summer Sound Clash... 25th July @ Ministry of Sound in Room 2. In the meantime check out Redlight's Lobster Boy showcase mix for a host of fresh new cuts and unreleased dubs. To download the mix, simply click the link below.
